Our Story

Reel Planning evolved from Craven Ovenden Town Planning and has been providing planning services throughout metropolitan and regional Queensland since 2005. Greg Ovenden became sole Director of the company in 2013.

At first glance, the Reel Planning logo represents an Alvey fishing reel and rod – a reflection of Greg’s favourite pastime of tailor fishing off Flinders Beach on North Stradbroke Island. From a town planning perspective, our logo can be seen as nodes of development, big and small, urban and rural, which represents the diversity of planning matters that our team of 13 planners deal with on a daily basis.

Our Rockhampton office was established in 2015 with three town planners and is one of a few firms specialising in town planning in the Central Queensland region. We recognised the region’s need for high-quality and affordable planning services and, through our local presence, we pride ourselves on delivering advice and assistance in a practical manner. Our growing client base in Central Queensland, and Western Queensland, is a testament to our commitment to being trusted advisors for our clients in the regions.

The planning services we offer are as unique as the diversity of clients we assist. Our expert witness services remain strong and we relish our involvement in Queensland’s headline planning disputes and their legal teams. We assist many Local Governments with statutory and strategic planning services, from the outback reaches of Longreach and Barcaldine Regional Council areas to the remote shires of the Torres Strait and Weipa. We continue to provide everyday assistance to property owners, businesses and developers with development applications, approvals and a myriad planning enquiries.
